The 2nd Amendment - in Discworld!

2/17/2014

For those not familiar with Sir Terry Pratchett's "Discworld" books, all I can say is you are missing a real treat.  this can be fixed very quickly, with a trip to your local library or bookstore.

The snippet for today precisely describes the ORIGINAL meaning of the 2nd Amendment to the US Constitution, and is from "Nanny Ogg's Cookbook" by Sir Terry with the help of a few others.  Extremely brief background:  Lancre is the name of a small kindgom which is the site of a number of the series' stories.

"In Lancre we have what I suppose you'd call a constitutional monarchy if we had a constitution.  What this means is this:  there is only one king and more'n five hundred subjects, and they all work every day at jobs which mostly involve sharp things.  It's one of those lessons that are so obvious they don't have to be taught."

More trickery to UNDERMINE Constitutional limits on government!!

http://publiushuldah.wordpress.com/2014/02/10/balancing-the-budget-or-adding-a-national-sales-tax-to-the-income-tax/

Another EXCELLENT article by Publius Huldah on the latest in the *long* list of attempts to undermine the Constitutional limits ont he actions of the federal government.

The ONLY real solution to our dilemma is for We, the People, to understand (1) The Constitutional limits on the federal government (by reading and studying the actual document -- it is NOT hard!), (2) The Principles that underlie the Constitution -- what it was designed to espouse and protect -- which are in the Declaration of Independence; and then to act in accordance with those principles and demand state and federal representatives who will uphold their oaths!

NONE of this will ever work without the understanding of We, the People.

In our eagerness to get by without lifting a finger (or a page) in our own behalf, we are willing to jump on bad bandwagon after worse bandwagon of horrible idea with spiffy-sounding name.

WAKE UP, people -- before you find yourself in chains!  Time is running out.

Post-SOTU

Last night the current executive carried out one of the very few Constitutionally authorized or required acts that anyone still pays attention to these days:  a report to Congress.  This has long since become a sham and political theater, setting an agenda for future elections and playing blame games.  Washington, Jefferson, and all the others of the Founding Fathers would be sickened to see what is now called a report.

However last night added something new to the mix -- a stated intent to utterly disregard the Constitution the executive SWORE to uphold and defend, in order to push his own completely unConstitutional agenda.

That is oath-breaking at the very least.  It is also "high crimes and misdemeanors" (high being the office, not necessarily the extent of either crime or misdemeanor -- although there are some of us who still believe that oath-breaking is one of the HIGHEST of crimes) and therefore the latest in a LONG series of impeachable offenses.

Congress has no Constitutional choice but to impeach and remove from office this incumbent.  To fail to do so is grounds for each of them to be impeached or recalled.

That fully half the attendees CHEERED the stated intent to disregard the "Supreme Law of the Land" that they ALL swore to uphold is disgusting and despicable.

An Article V Convention equals DISASTER for this country.

1/19/2014

An Article V convention has been called our one remaining hope by many conservative leaders and commentators.  Books have been written.  Interviews given.  Converts, even.

This would be an absolute and utter DISASTER for the country.  Until we understand our present Constitution, we cannot hope to "fix" it - let alone through the unrestrained technique of a Constitutional Convention "con-con" (and it is indeed a con).

How can I be so certain?  Very simple.  George Soros, whose life goal is the destruction of the United States, is funding groups promoting the Article V Con-Con.

Below is a link to the article we discussed last night on the 19th Amendment.  The author, Ann Barnhardt, makes some very interesting points that are well worth your consideration.  She's good at this - even (especially?) when one does not agree with her.

Thanksgiving Proclamation

11/30/2013

By the President of the United States of America, a Proclamation.

Whereas it is the duty of all Nations to acknowledge the providence of Almighty God, to obey his will, to be grateful for his benefits, and humbly to implore his protection and favor-- and whereas both Houses of Congress have by their joint Committee requested me to recommend to the People of the United States a day of public thanksgiving and prayer to be observed by acknowledging with grateful hearts the many signal favors of Almighty God especially by affording them an opportunity peaceably to establish a form of government for their safety and happiness.

Now therefore I do recommend and assign Thursday the 26th day of November next to be devoted by the People of these States to the service of that great and glorious Being, who is the beneficent Author of all the good that was, that is, or that will be-- That we may then all unite in rendering unto him our sincere and humble thanks--for his kind care and protection of the People of this Country previous to their becoming a Nation--for the signal and manifold mercies, and the favorable interpositions of his Providence which we experienced in the course and conclusion of the late war--for the great degree of tranquility, union, and plenty, which we have since enjoyed--for the peaceable and rational manner, in which we have been enabled to establish constitutions of government for our safety and happiness, and particularly the national One now lately instituted--for the civil and religious liberty with which we are blessed; and the means we have of acquiring and diffusing useful knowledge; and in general for all the great and various favors which he hath been pleased to confer upon us.

And also that we may then unite in most humbly offering our prayers and supplications to the great Lord and Ruler of Nations and beseech him to pardon our national and other transgressions-- to enable us all, whether in public or private stations, to perform our several and relative duties properly and punctually--to render our national government a blessing to all the people, by constantly being a Government of wise, just, and constitutional laws, discreetly and faithfully executed and obeyed--to protect and guide all Sovereigns and Nations (especially such as have shewn kindness unto us) and to bless them with good government, peace, and concord--To promote the knowledge and practice of true religion and virtue, and the encrease of science among them and us--and generally to grant unto all Mankind such a degree of temporal prosperity as he alone knows to be best.

Given under my hand at the City of New York the third day of October in the year of our Lord 1789.

George Washington

(Issued at the request of Congress)

Pembroke talk on November 12th

Many thanks to the 30-plus Patriots who came out an a cold November evening to hear a talk on the Constitution!  Despite the chill outside and the chill in the function hall (with the heat only working intermittently), we had a great meeting.  The audience was wonderful and the questions insightful.  I appreciate the honor of being asked to speak to you on this important subject.

The link below is to a blog post which includes mention of the talk in Worcester on Monday evening.  My only caveat is that in one spot, casual reading may impute to me opinions I did not state.
